Eco Composting Toilets
What is it and how does it work?
A waterless toilet solution, saving drinking water from being flushed down the loo!
A composting or dry toilet is the most economical, convenient and environmentally friendly way to process your toilet waste.
People are always surprised when they first use a composting toilet.
There are no smells and they have great benefits such as everything is recycled to make compost!
A composting toilet is a type of toilet that treats toilet waste by the process of composting.
A natural processes of decomposition and evaporation to recycle human waste carried out by micro-organisms such as bacteria.
This natural process is basically the same as in your garden composter.
Converting it from waste into a useful fertilizing compost.
We collect the sawdust free from our local sawmill here in the valley. We top up your saw dust as and when you need it and always have a small stock onsite.
How often does it need emptying?
Composting toilets do not require a connection to septic tanks or sewer systems unlike flush toilets.
We use 15 litre stainless steel buckets as receptacles.
Normally it would be necessary to empty your toilet every 3 to 5 days.
But for your comfort we empty your toilet everyday.
This is indeed an extra job for us, but quickly one understands how important it is to put to good use this resource instead of flushing it away into a water course using drinking water!
We believe it is totally worth the effort for our planet.
For the moment, composting toilets are not the norm, but once you have tried one, you will understand there is no need to fear!
A third of our drinkable water goes down the W.C. where it’s polluted and we have to spend money cleaning it again!
Using dry toilets rather than a flush toilet could save up to 15,000 liters of drinking water per person per year.
By taking our faeces out of the aquatic cycle, we participate in the safeguard of the aquatic fauna (removing the big hormonal problem) and the human health! (male infertility and early puberty of adolescent girls), while allowing a full and unprecedented treatment of this drug problem.
What does it look like?
Visually they aren’t what most people expect.
We have custom build our composting toilets to make them as comfortable and practical as possible for you to use, and for us to empty them for you.
They are made with locally sourced wood and have normal looking toilet seats. We have made a special, easily accesable draw to hold the sawdust covering material, that has a stainless steel scoop for ease of distribution.
Does it smell bad?
NO, dry toilets do not smell bad!
When a covering material is added, such as sawdust, it prevents the development of odors.
With proper toilet management, and suficient covering with sawdust these odors are at most a small inconvenience just as with a flushing toilet.
Our composting toilets are well ventilated to help with the initial smell before you cover up with sawdust.
