Two Days Rich in Landscapes and Stories at “Pays de Natura”

Green pastures, deep forests, unexpected lakes, pools of thermal waters and alabaster marble, a large and varied fauna (Gypaetus, Capercaillie, Isard, Deer, Boar, Fox, …), the Hautacam contains within it a thousand unsuspected riches. In ancient times, men have often tried to monopolize them. But the old massive Bigourdan rebelled, Today, there remains little of this time that vestiges and legends …

Day 1: By an old historical path, our steps lead us to the fairground barns of the Plateau de La Prade, then to the remains of the Abbey of St-Orens: the opportunity to evoke the past life of men in the mountains.

Day 2: Very beautiful loop, in the very heart of the massif, through woods and summer pastures. The easy climb of the Pic de Barran (1982m) offers us an unexpected panorama of the surrounding lakes and the Pic du Midi de Bigorre.

Note: Routes subject to change depending on the environmental conditions and the level of the participants.

Les Grands Sites des Pyrénées

4 DAYS

Intimate nature

The secrets of the most grandiose sites unveiled

From the Pont d’Espagne to Gavarnie, from the Val d’Azun to the Néouvielle massif, every day a hike will allow us to enter the wonderful world of the Great Sites of the Pyrenees. The sun rising from the ridges, the mountain is revealed little by little. On the lookout for the first rays, the muzzle of a marmot emerges from a burrow. Further, young isards, called “pitous” exercise their agility by launching in spectacular slides on the last snowfields. In the distance, impassive, the walls of the Cirque de Gavarnie, UNESCO World Heritage await the discovery of the mysteries of their formation …

Day 1: In the footsteps of Ramond de Carbonnières, great naturalist of the eighteenth century, we will discover, throughout our hike, a multitude of delicate flowers and bedecked. In the intimacy of the Ice Circus of Gavarnie grow Joubarbes, Ramondes, Saxifrages …, and this unusual carnivorous plant that is the Grassette.

Day 2: In the Val d’Azun, there is a valley where the Marmots abound. It is in April that these rodents come out of their lethargy and resume their taste for life. But in the summer, under the watchful eyes of the parents, the young, small balls of confused and joyous hair, make smile the mountain by their cries and their games …

Day 3: Smaller and more agile than its cousin of the Alps, Isard almost disappeared from our mountains. But protective measures have been taken and we can, today, observe without much difficulty the feats of the herds of Isards who “tread” in the corridors and rocky caves of the Cauterets massif …

Day 4: Eagles, Vultures, Falcons, Milans, … the massif that we travel today, near Argelès-Gazost, is one of the great refugiums of raptors in France. By means of binoculars and spotting scopes, we will contemplate the broad orbs of the Griffon Vultures, the fantastic stung flights of the Peregrine Falcons …

Note: Routes subject to change depending on the environmental conditions and the level of the participants.
